Ellynne Volmering won the 2025 Division 3 District Title for the Harbor Beach Pirates Girls Basketball Team. Upset the Cass City Red Hawks in the District Championship Game at Lakers HS 3 weeks ago. Saw Jim Tamlyn passed away on September 12th, 2024. Next month her husband Brad Volmering passed away. 2 very nice guys to around with. Her former Head Coach JoAnn Capling is in rough health. Another good person to be around with too. Good idols & mentors to learn from. Ellynne played for the Legendary Head Coach JoAnn Capling in HS for the Harbor Beach Pirates Girls Basketball Team.
1981 Harbor Beach HS Graduated. Good 1980 Harbor Beach Pirates Football Team. Went 9-0 on the 1980 campaign. Go to the Class C Playoffs. Lose in the 1st Rd of the Class C Playoffs. Went 9-1 on the 1980 campaign. She graduated with Jack Dillon’s son Al. Former Sanilac ISD & Marlette Community Schools Superintendent Duane Lange. Basketball Official Darryl Wehner. Good bunch of people Ellynne graduated with in HS at Harbor Beach in 1981.
Derek Volmering was a good Football player for the Harbor Beach Pirates 2001 & 2002. Played for Head Coach Troy Schelke in his HS playing days. Standout RB & DB. Went 17-6 in his playing career in HS. Biggest upset they suffered was in 2002 in Week 2 in the home opener against the Sandusky Redskins at Jack Dillon Fieldhouse in HB. 36-21 upset lost over Sandusky. Top 5 upset wins in Rick Tank’s Head Coaching career for the Sandusky Redskins Football Team 1991-02. Sandusky had a good team in 2002.
Played his College Football for the SVSU Cardinals in Division 2 in Saginaw. Good career in College. LB on Defense. Made good adjustments from one level to another one. Signed with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. Good team right now in Orchard Park, New York. Been in the playoffs in the last few years in the NFL. Go to the AFC Championship Game this past year. Lose to the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field & Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Loves the Michigan Wolverines Football Team. Saw them be College Football Playoff National Champions on January 8th, 2024 at NRG Stadium in Houston. Beat the Washington Huskies 34-13. Go 15-0 on the 2023-24 campaign. Special feeling indeed. Upset the Ohio State Buckeyes on November 30th, 2024 at the Horseshoe in Columbus. Thanksgiving Weekend 13-10 upset win in a tough hostile environment to play on in the nation & also in the B1G Conference. Ohio State went on to be National Champions on Martin Luther King Day at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. 34-23 win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on January 20th, 2025.
Bryce Underwood the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2025. LSU Tigers commit in Baton Rouge for a while. Decided to decommit from LSU. Become a Michigan Wolverine instead. Smart move by Bryce Underwood. Grew up being a Michigan Wolverines Football Fan while he was born. Got his wish come true. Lives 20 minutes from “The Big House” in Ann Arbor. Played his HS Football for the Belleville Tigers in his 4 years at the helm 2021-24. Guided them to win Back 2 Back Division 1 State Champions for the Belleville Tigers Football Team 2021 & 2022. Saw him play against Caledonia at Ford Field in Detroit on November 26th, 2022. Guided them to be 2022 Division 1 State Champions.
Derek moved back to Harbor Beach once again. He is going to help out his Mom’s Girls Basketball Team for the 2025-26 Harbor Beach Pirates… Decent talent on display now. Very well liked individual guy in this community he grew up & raised at. Loves playing Football the best. Harbor Beach is a good Football Town…. Love their Football on a year in & year out basis.
