Lance Campbell retired as Head Coach for the Cros-Lex Pioneers Boys Basketball Team. Did amazing work 2017-25. Build that program to a powerbouse. Went 140-40 overall record as Head Coach. 1994 Cros-Lex HS Graduated. Played for Head Coach Don Roberts & Wayne Hinton on Varsity. Good Assistant Coaches during that time being. Play Don Roberts the school of Basketball. Learned that stuff from Don during that time being. Son Nolan is graduating next month at Cros-Lex HS in the Class of 2025. Lance was the Top 3 best High School Boys Basketball Coaches in the Whole Thumb Area & also in the Blue Water Area. Lance knew his Basketball very well.

Lance collected 9 trophies to the Cros-Lex Pioneers Boys Basketball Program as Head Coach. Good core of talent on display. Lance knew what he was doing. Used that talent very well. Build a nice legacy during that time being. He’ll be missed for sure. Players will miss watching Lance coach Basketball. Brought the best of their abilities in practices & games. Lance is a program builder.
Best team he had was in 2021. Hunter Soper, Tyler Johnson, & company. 2021 Cros-Lex HS Class was a special bunch. Had very good skills to the table. Bring in good ideas as well too. Played with a lot of heart & determination. Started that foundation up 1st. Next 5 classes followed that suit very well.
Hunter Soper did amazing work for the Lake Superior State Lakers Basketball Team in College in Sault St. Marie, MI in the U.P. They went to the Division 2 Elite Basketball Tournament in 2025. Got to play quite of bit this season. All-time leading scorer in School History for the Cros-Lex Pioneers Boys Basketball Team. Graduated in 2021 at Cros-Lex HS. Played 4 years on Varsity for Lance Campbell. So did Tyler Johnson as well too.
Went 20-0 in the 2021-22 campaign for the Cros-Lex Pioneers Boys Basketball Team. Having Jake Townsend & company running the show. They did some good things like Hunter Soper, Tyler Johnson & others did in 2021. Good group of them as well too. Good Basketball Skills as well too. Good 2023 bunch in play.
Fell short in the Division 2 District Championship Game on February 28th, 2025 at Cros-Lex HS. Lose to the Yale Bulldogs 34-31 at C-L HS. Lance Campbell’s last game as Head Coach for the Cros-Lex Pioneers Boys Basketball Team. Lance did a good job this season. Not having the best talent on the roster. Still got the best of their abilities in practices & games. Win for what they had out there anyways. Miss having Lance on the sidelines for good. Owns a Barber Shop in Croswell.
Don’t have good talent coming up in the Elementary & Jr. High Boys Basketball levels at all. Decent talent on Freshman & JV. 3 decent seasons in the Class of 2026, 2027, & 2028 in play for the Cros-Lex Pioneers Boys Basketball Team….. Talent is declining each & every year…..
