Owen Yens is a good Baseball Player for the North Branch Broncos in the Class of 2025. He is a “Lefty”. Bats Left-Handed & Throws Left-Handed. Plays LF, 1st Base, & Pitches for Head Coach Joe Mitchell. Reliable guy to have on the roster. He can do it all. Junior right now. Guide them to win the Division 2 District Title in 2023. Beat the Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets 2-1 in the Super Regional Game at Goodrich HS. Good student of the game & also in the classroom. Competitor on the roster. Wants to win at the end of the day. Baseball is in the Yens Family Blood. Got to talk to his Grandpa Yens on Friday Night at North Branch HS. Beat the Clio Mustangs in the 1st game 5-0 & lost in the 2nd game 2-1. I was impressed with him on the mound.
His Dad Chris was phenomenal player himself for the Mayville Wildcats Baseball Team. Played 3 years for Head Coach Curt Henderson on Varsity. Played on the Class C Semifinal Games in 1993 as a Sophomore & 1995 as a Senior. Scott Frenzel started that 4-year trend for the Mayville Wildcats Baseball Team. 2nd best pitcher Curt Henderson ever had in his amazing Coaching career. Graduated in 1993 at Mayville HS. Chris learned that stuff very well from Scott Frenzel. Other ones follow that suit very well. Ton of talent all over the place during that 4-year run in 1993-96. Curt Henderson was a phenomenal Head Coach. Build that one to an Elite one. Curt can coach with the best of them. Knew what he was talking. Had to take a test for order to get to play in the games every week. Had to have a 70% or better to play in the games. If you get under 70% on the test you don’t play at all. Hard test Curt put out there for the players to take. Players like his style. Took the best of them anyways. Knew what he was talking about.
Play against 2 different Brothers on the roster for the Mayville Wildcats Baseball Team in HS. Plain Brothers. Jeremy in the Class of 1993 & Travis in the Class of 1996. Both good athletes in school. TerBush Brothers. Joe in the Class of 1994 & Joel in the Class of 1995. They were good too. Joel & Joe played on the 1993 squad as Senior & Junior while Chris was a Sophomore. Jeremy played on the 1993 squad as a Senior & Travis played on the 1995 squad as a Junior in the Class C Semifinals at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
Best team they had was in 1995. Guys could pitch, field, hit, & do everything for Curt that season. Best batting average in School History in 1995. Had the complete package. Didn’t win the TCC American Division. Finish 2nd in 1995 behind the champions Reese Rockets. Had Reese on their ropes. Didn’t finish it off in style. Reese had a really good team also too. Sandusky had a strong team also too. Good bunch of them in the Class of 1995. Sandusky finish 3rd behind the Reese Rockets & Mayville Wildcats.
Chris Yens won 1995 Michigan High School Baseball East vs West All-Star MVP Honors at Tigers Stadium in Detroit. Continue his brilliant career for the Michigan State Spartans Baseball Team in East Lansing. All-time Saves leader in School History. Wear the Green & White Baseball Uniform. Came back after College. Does accounting stuff in North Branch. Lives in North Branch right now. Curt Henderson got to see Owen Yens play in 2023. Invited him to watch him play. Impressed of what Owen brings to the table. Joe Mitchell has a good Coaching Staff on hand now in North Branch. Good Junior Class right now at North Branch HS.
Like watching, Owen play in the last 2 years in a Broncos Uniform. Likes Baseball a lot. Favorite sport. Chris tells Owen a lot of stories about his playing days with Mayville Wildcats & Michigan State Spartans Baseball Team….. Detroit Tigers doing better then they been in the past years. Lots of good prospects they got now in the Farm System. Top 5 in the MLB. Likes Manager AJ Hinch. Did like the Ron Gardenhire hire as well too. Did a good job with that organization for what he had to work with. Started the rebuilding, restructure, revamping, revamping, redeveloping, & other ones too in the Minor League System. Clean up the mess they were in. MLB Draft Picks have solid in 2018-present. Teach them the right way to play Baseball. Detroit Tigers Baseball Fan……
