Eric Sweeney end his Head Coaching Career as a State Champion on Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit. Get revenge against the Ottawa Hills Whiteford Bobcats 21-6 in the Division 8 State Championship Game. Lost to them 26-20 in 2022 in this stage. Good 4 years as Head Coach for the Ubly Bearcats Football Team. Played for Head Coach Jerry Herp in HS for 3 years. Did it for Jerry Herp on Saturday. Passed away with Liver Cancer in 2009. Name the HS Football Field at Herp Field in Ubly HS. Eric shared a good bond together in the past years with Jerry Herp. Jerry saw Eric do his thing on Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit at his great place he is at now. Didn’t like the performance from the Michigan State Spartans Football Team on Friday Night at Ford Field in Detroit. Lose to the Penn State Nittany Lions 42-0. Eric is a Michigan State Spartans Fan. Remarkable ride as player & coach. Well liked by everyone else in the Ubly Community. 1992 Ubly HS Graduated. School Record 14 wins in 2023. Been to the State Championship Game 4 times. Be State Runner-Up 3 times in 2008, 2020, & 2022. Be 2023 Division 8 State Champions this time around. 1st State Championship Title in School History was being made on Saturday. Eric & his crew will remember that one for a long time coming. Stay in the program & help out still in Ubly. Go from Jerry Herp, Dave Rowland, Bill Sweeney on 2 different stints, Dave Kaufman, Jim Becker, & now Eric Sweeney. All of them did a excellent during their tenure in Ubly. Eric knows the culture & other ones too. Players will run thru a brick wall for him in practices. Happy to see him get the job done right in 2023.

Impressive stat to look at. Got his Legacy already in now. Amazing 4 years to talk about. Collected 14 trophies to Ubly HS. Had the players that know what to do out there anyways. Eric was the right one available for this position. Lost quite of bit off the roster to graduation a year ago. Had a lot of them comeback from the 2022 squad. Got a program in progress now. Ubly Is A Football Town. Excellent Coaching Staff On Hand. They do a good job with the player development.

I remember covering the Harbor Beach Pirates game on November 9th, 2019 at Jack Dillon Fieldhouse in Harbor Beach on Saturday Night Football. Super Cold Night. Ubly took care of business in that contest. Get out of Harbor Beach with a 34-20 win. Bill Sweeney’s final year as Head Coach in 2019. Did a heck of a job with that unit. Win the Division 8 Regional Championship Title the next week at Herp Field in Ubly HS. Carson Heleski went off in the Division 8 Regional Championship Game against the Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central Panthers. Lose to the Beal City Aggies 22-21 at Mt. Pleasant HS on November 23rd, 2019. Lost to them on November 20th, 2021 at Mt. Morris HS 14-7. Got revenge finally against the Beal City Aggies 8 days ago at Mt. Morris HS 24-6.
Eric Sweeney is a Class Act Individual Guy. Hard working individual guy. Teach them proper techniques of the game. Preach to other ones in the community. Great local guy to have around. Good stuff to the kids. Good family as well too. True Gentlemen to have in Ubly. Retire as Varsity Football Head Coach for good. Still stay around & help out the program still. Spend time with his wife & his son. Great guy to talk to. Good common sense about other stuff. Supporter to the Ubly Bearcats Football Team. Helped out the Jr. High Basketball Program as a 7th Grade Coach as well too.
